Guernsey's Electric Smart Car
The Electric Vehicles Company in Guernsey, Channel Islands, Great Britain converts petrol powered Smart cars to battery power. The Smart EV lithium batteries cost £0.50 to charge up on Guernsey Electricity's economy 12 rate. The electric car has a range of 50 to 70 miles. This equates to a running cost of less than £0.01 per mile. This equates to a fuel efficiency of 270 mpg. With the Smart EV you will never have to fill-up at a petrol station again and you will be reducing your Smart car's C02 emissions.

Eco Open House
Visit a family home that has been designed with energy efficiency in mind. A 19th century farmhouse has been modernised to incorporate energy saving and energy capturing technologies to create a warm and welcoming family home. Learn about the economics of installing a ground source heat pump, a whole house ventilation system, photovoltaic panels and underfloor heating. The home has been designed to capture the sun's warmth. It has been fitted with Sedum roofs, extra insulation, a rain water recovery system, photovoltaic electricity panels and inverter, solar glass, light emitting diodes (LED) and low energy lighting and a sun pipe.

G-CAN Chairman Appointed to Guernsey Renewable Energy Commission
Guernsey Climate Action Network Chairman Professor Nick Day has been appointed to the shadow Renewable Energy Commission. Professor Day retired as Professor in Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge. Since returning to Guernsey he has taken a keen interest in the effects of climate change and brings to the Commission a considerable knowledge of the renewable energy opportunities in Guernsey.
New energy efficient homes being built at the Sir John Leale Avenue development, St Sampson
Construction work has started on building 58 new energy efficient homes by Guernsey Housing Association off Victoria Avenue. GHA is an independent not-for-profit company, but works in close partnership with the States Housing Department to help deliver the Corporate Housing Programme for the islands people.

We are told that Guernsey will need to spend £100 million on a deep water berth for the ‘vital’ oil tanker that we will need to import the increased volumes of fuel oil needed by 2020. Would it be wiser to spend this money on renewable energy technology and energy efficiency improvements instead?
The Electric Vehicle Company in Guernsey
The Electric Vehicle Company in Guernsey is now the research & development centre for converting a number of petrol powered cars to battery power. The cars will be converted in the UK by The Electric Car Corporation Plc. Currently the electric models available include the Peugeot 107, the Fiat Panda, the Citroën C1 and the Smart EV. A van conversion is also being performed for the States of Guernsey's Environment Department.
Has Gas and Oil had its day?
Paul Fletcher of E-SI, which installs ground and air source heat pumps and photovoltaic and solar hot water panels, argues that the future is renewable energy. We should no longer be installing fossil fuel powered systems but be fast-tracking renewable energy systems. Our whole Guernsey community should be working together to make this happen.

Meeting Carbon Budgets - the need for a step change is the CCC's first annual progress report to Parliament. It assesses the progress that has been made by Government so far in reducing emissions and the implications of the recession and 'credit crunch' for meeting carbon budgets. The report will set out the emission reduction indicators that will be used to judge progress and will provide a detailled analysis of the policies required to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases from electricity generation, from buildings and industry, heat and transport in the years up to the end of the third carbon budget period in 2022.
