Farmers Market
Status: Active
The twin challenges of Climate Change and Peak Oil, mean that we cannot afford to be complacent about the present abundance of affordable food in our shops, but should be confronting the need for ‘food security’ in Guernsey.
With this in mind, G-CAN has been supporting the Farmer’s Market held fortnightly at Sausmarez Manor, by having a stall there where we sell locally produced food, organic where possible.
Our presence at the market fulfils several purposes:
- to help promote the idea of fresh locally grown and seasonal produce, that has the lowest carbon footprint of any food.
- to increase the choice of foods on offer at the market thereby improving the market experience for visitors.
- to assist in the process of getting people to think about their food choices.
- to help provide a market /outlet for local growers thereby encouraging them and others to contiue growing.
- to give our selves on opportunity to showcase G-CAN’s aims; to advertise upcoming events; to meet people and talk about the G-CAN organisation.
We're very keen for people to come along and help out - even if it's only for an hour or so. Please contact Rosie if you can spare some time.
The first 2008 date is April 15th from 10am until midday.
Hope to see you there in 2008.
